INDUCTION COURSE FOR CABINET SECRETARIES AND PRINCIPAL SECRETARIES

On 14 May 2025, we hosted Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries for an Induction Course aimed at enhancing their capacity to navigate the complexities of government operations. Supported by the National Defence University Kenya – Centre for Strategic Security Studies, this initiative is designed to equip them with a deep understanding of constitutional mandates, legal frameworks, administrative systems, operational dynamics, and socio-political factors that influence effective service delivery.

The course was officially inaugurated by the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei, EGH, who emphasized the need for a whole-of-government approach anchored in synergy, strategic foresight, and a shared sense of purpose.

In his remark, the Vice Chief of Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda, underscored the importance of the program in fostering effective and principled leadership within the public sector.

Over the two-day course, participants will engage with diverse speakers drawn from key sectors, offering a comprehensive perspective on the multifaceted responsibilities of public service leadership.

CURRICULUM WRITING BOARD

Curriculum Writing Board is underway for one week on two critical training programmes - Introduction to Maritime Security and Blue Economy Course and Integrated Maritime Security Course.
These efforts, supported by the Government of Japan through UNDP, aim to strengthen the capacity of maritime professionals and institutions across the region.

The curriculum review focuses on refining the courses' objectives, scope, and learning outcomes, ensuring they respond to current maritime challenges. The review also includes the development of detailed module content and a comprehensive course syllabus aligned with international standards.
A key priority is the integration of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda into the course content, promoting gender-inclusive approaches in maritime governance and security operations.

These courses are designed to empower stakeholders with practical knowledge and skills to safeguard maritime spaces and harness the potential of the Blue Economy—contributing to peace, security, and sustainable development.

TREE PLANTING AT NGONG HILLS

In support of the nationwide tree planting initiative aligned with the Government of Kenya’s ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032, the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) conducted a successful tree planting exercise on 30 April 2025 at Ngong Hills.

In her remark, Director IPSTC Brigadier Joyce Sitienei addressed IPSTC staff, emphasizing the critical role of environmental stewardship in building a resilient future. She encouraged everyone to actively support the national tree planting agenda, highlighting that tree planting is not just a one-day activity, but a long-term commitment. “It is not enough to plant trees—we must also ensure they grow, thrive, and are protected.”

During the event, a total of 2,000 indigenous and environmentally suitable trees were planted. This effort underscores IPSTC’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability and the active contribution toward national climate resilience and reforestation goals. With this latest effort, the organization has cumulatively planted 15,200 trees to date, demonstrating sustained involvement in national environmental conservation efforts. The Centre remains dedicated to managing its allocated section and ensuring that its tree planting initiatives lead to lasting and measurable impact.
