VISIT BY THE DEPUTY HEAD OF THE BRITISH DEFENCE STAFF (WEST AFRICA)

On 9th June 2025, the Humanitarian Peace Support School hosted Colonel Matthew Edwards, Deputy Head of the British Defence Staff (West Africa), who was accompanied by a delegation from the British Peace Support Team – Africa (BPST-A). The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of ongoing Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) training efforts at the institution.

Colonel Edwards was given a guided tour of the Counter IED Block, where he observed the infrastructure and training aids in use to support C-IED capacity building. He also received a briefing on the Mobile Training Team (MTT) concept, which plays a key role in extending the school’s training reach across the region.

The delegation visited an ongoing All Arms Search Course and observed a practical training session, offering a first-hand view of the immersive, hands-on approach used in building operational search competencies.
Additionally, Colonel Edwards toured the PSO Amani Village and the C-IED Support Building, where he took note of the facilities and resources dedicated to peace support operations and C-IED preparedness.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for the delegation to gain deeper insights into the institution’s training framework and ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening regional C-IED capabilities.
