STRATEGIC MEETING WITH THE REGIONAL CENTRE FOR MAPPING OF RESOURCES FOR DEVELOPMENT

On 12 June 2025, we held a productive meeting with representatives from the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD). The discussion provided an opportunity to brief them on the Centre’s core activities, with a particular focus on the work of our postgraduate school.

The meeting also explored potential areas of collaboration, with a strong emphasis on the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in research, training, and development initiatives. Both parties expressed a shared interest in leveraging geospatial technologies to support evidence-based decision-making and capacity-building efforts in the region.

We look forward to building a strong partnership with RCMRD that aligns with our mutual goals of advancing academic excellence and promoting sustainable development through innovative mapping and resource management solutions.

DELIBARATION MEETING WITH THE UNITED NATIONS INSITITUTE FOR DISARMAMENT RESEARCH

We held deliberations with a delegation from the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), led by Dr. Fiifi Edu-Afful, a Senior Researcher with the Conventional Arms and Ammunition Programme.

The purpose of the visit was to explore potential areas of collaboration between our Centre and UNIDIR, particularly in the field of conflict prevention, disarmament, and arms control. Discussions focused on synergies around research, policy engagement, and capacity-building programs aimed at reducing the risks associated with the proliferation and misuse of conventional weapons.

Our Director warmly welcomed the delegation, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing emerging security challenges and advancing the Centre’s mission to promote sustainable peace through research and training.

The meeting marked an important step toward establishing a mutually beneficial relationship that could contribute meaningfully to regional and global peace and security efforts.

VISIT BY THE DEPUTY HEAD OF THE BRITISH DEFENCE STAFF (WEST AFRICA)

On 9th June 2025, the Humanitarian Peace Support School hosted Colonel Matthew Edwards, Deputy Head of the British Defence Staff (West Africa), who was accompanied by a delegation from the British Peace Support Team – Africa (BPST-A). The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of ongoing Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) training efforts at the institution.

Colonel Edwards was given a guided tour of the Counter IED Block, where he observed the infrastructure and training aids in use to support C-IED capacity building. He also received a briefing on the Mobile Training Team (MTT) concept, which plays a key role in extending the school’s training reach across the region.

The delegation visited an ongoing All Arms Search Course and observed a practical training session, offering a first-hand view of the immersive, hands-on approach used in building operational search competencies.
Additionally, Colonel Edwards toured the PSO Amani Village and the C-IED Support Building, where he took note of the facilities and resources dedicated to peace support operations and C-IED preparedness.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for the delegation to gain deeper insights into the institution’s training framework and ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening regional C-IED capabilities.
