IPSTC in partnership with the Centre for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) is hosting a round-table discussion dubbed β€œProtection of Civilians – Roles, Opportunities and Challenges”.
The aim is to create space for dialogue between representatives of conflict-prone communities in Kenya, security forces, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and other relevant stakeholders on the role of each party in promoting and ensuring the protection of civilians during both peace and conflict times.
The two-day workshop has 25 participants from the Kenya Defence Forces, CIVIC, Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), IPSTC, Lamu County, Wajir Country, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

IPSTC partnered with the National Police Service and Save the Children to develop a programme for responding to the needs of Gender-Based Violence survivors through a one-stop centre known as Policare.
The curriculum design exercise will be tailored for the police personnel earmarked for deployment at policare centers. The development of the curriculum is in line with guidelines from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority.
The activity has a Multisectoral approach, bringing together stakeholders from the public and private sector from diverse fields namely; security, psychosocial, legal and justice, and medical and criminal rehabilitation.

The Civil-Military Coordination course (CIMIC) commenced today at the Peace and Conflict Studies School in Karen.
The course which is scheduled to run for two weeks has 19 participants from Niger, Guinea, Togo, Libya, DRC, Kenya, South Sudan and Benin.
β€œPeacekeeping is evolving to include the broader humanitarian approach and the responsibility to protect civilians. Therefore, this course will provide theoretical and practical knowledge on CIMIC in order to foster an integrative approach of operational and tactical interaction of military police and civilians in peace support operations,” mentioned Lt Col AymΓ¨ric Molle.
