IED THREAT MITIGATION SENIOR LEADERSHIP SEMINAR

The IED Threat Mitigation Senior Leadership Seminar was officially opened on Monday, 29th Nov 2021 by Col I K Guleid, Col Plans & Progs IPSTC, at the Peace and Conflict Studies School Karen.

The 4-day seminar has 18 participants from Kenya, Malawi, Burundi, Uganda, and Zambia. The aim of the course is to enhance senior leaders, staff officers, and planners' knowledge on fundamentals of IED threat mitigation who are currently earmarked on UN/AU mission.

"Currently, AMISOM is facing threats of VE which can only be mitigated through training on CIED. The course will familiarise officers on CIED and constraints led by IEDs," stated Col Guleid.

The course arose owing to the negative impact caused by explosive hazards resulting in the loss of lives, livelihoods, and limiting mission effectiveness.

THE 24TH REGIONAL SENIOR LEADERS MISSION LEADERS COURSE CLOSING CEREMONY 

On Friday, 26th November 2021, Major Gen Charlie Collins Commander 1st Division British Army officially closed the 24th Regional Senior Mission Leaders Course. The ceremony was graced by Major Gen Njiru Commandant Defence Staff College, Brigadier J C Sitienei Director IPSTC, Brigadier Ronnie UK Advisor to Kenya, and  Col Alex Wilson Commander BSPT(A).

The course was sponsored by the United Kingdom through BPST(A). The course had a total of 21 participants from 16 countries namely Gambia, Kenya, Bolivia, Lesotho, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, UK, Denmark, Zambia, Ghana, Nepal, France, Malawi, Burundi, and Burundi.

The course is conducted bi-annually and targets men and women in the top and mid-management levels serving or have a future potential to serve in multidimensional and integrated Peace Support Operations.

Its aim is to equip participants with relevant knowledge, skills, and attitudes on senior mission leadership that will strengthen their capacity for effective implementation of leadership roles and responsibilities in AU and UN Peace Support Operations.

To commemorate the day, participants were presented with certificates and their mentors were given Kenyan cultural items as mementos.

THE 24TH REGIONAL SENIOR MISSION LEADERS' COURSE

The 24th Regional Senior Leadership Course was officially opened today, 15th Nov 2021 by Major General P M Njiru, Commandant Defence Staff College. In attendance was Brig J C Sitienei Director IPSTC, Brig Ronnie UK Advisor to Kenya, Col Alex Wilson BPST Commander, Brig (RTD) Getachew S Fayisa Director EASFSEC, and Lt Gen(RTD) Daniel Opande Director of Studies.

The Course is sponsored by the Government of UK through the British Peace Support Team Africa. Our partnership with BPST(A) has enhanced the capacity of Peace Keepers through training. The two-week course has 27 participants; 17 Military, 6 Police, and 4 Civilians.

The participants were drawn from diverse countries namely Malawi, Kenya, Burundi, Zambia, Uganda, Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria, UK, Bolivia, Bangladesh, Denmark, Egypt, Lesotho, and France.

The mentors are PSO Experts from the African Union and UN Field Mission.This being a keystone course, it will incorporate climate change and pandemics whilst training on Peace and Leadership roles as part of the course work.
