INVESTMENT OF BLUE ECONOMY FOR ENHANCED MARITIME SECURITY

The African Continent has 13 million Km² of marine economic zones and more than 17% of global fresh and blue water resources. There is also a vast wealth of resources and immense opportunities within the maritime domain, however, strategies to ensure sustainable development of the systems are lacking in that regard.

In 2020, through IPSTC’s research, we realized the need to strengthen multi-agency focus in the areas of communication, infrastructure, rescue coordination, and post-disaster recovery in Kenya’s coastal region.

In our capacity, we train on Introduction to Maritime Security and Blue Economy, Integrated Maritime Security, and Blue Economy & Strategic Maritime Security and Blue Economy. The courses are designed to highlight the complex cross-cutting issues of extant challenges on maritime security policies and strategy implementation, and the salience of an integrated approach to maritime security for the sustainable development of the blue economy in Eastern Africa.
