Consistent with IPSTC's mandate of working towards improving the effectiveness of the international and regional response to complex emergencies, a Curriculum Review Board has been convened.

The board aims to review and update the current African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Pre-deployment Training learning plan, in accordance with the new African Transition Mission In Somalia (ATMIS) mandate.

Members of the board include IPSTC's Peace and Security Research Department, the Humanitarian Peace Support School's senior instructors at the Pre-deployment Training wing, Peace Support Operations specialists, and adept military leaders who have been involved in ATMIS operations.

The 5-day review process was officially kick-started by the Head of IPSTC's Research Department, Lt Col. Mwasaru. In his opening remarks, he stated the need to place emphasis on matching the curriculum with the actual situation encountered by troops in Somalia. This in turn will enable the troops to cope effectively after deployment.
