On July 2, 2024, Mr. Felix Koskei, the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, presided over the closing ceremony of the Ethics and Leadership for National Security Course titled β€˜UNDERSTANDING ETHICAL LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE IN NATIONAL SECURITY SPECTRUM’ hosted by the National Defence University Kenya (NDU-K) in collaboration with the Executive Office of the President. The course, held at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen, Nairobi trained 43 Principal Secretaries from various ministries over three cohorts between June 25 and July 2, 2024.

The training aimed to enhance national security awareness and teach ethical leadership and governance, essential for national security. Mr. Koskei highlighted the challenges posed by technology, cybercrime, terrorism, demographic changes, resource scarcity, migration, trade, and climate change, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency.

Among the key speakers were NDU-K’s Vice Chancellor Lt Gen Jimson Mutai and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Maj Gen William Shume who emphasized the value of teamwork, leadership, and governance. The course facilitator, Lt Gen John Omenda, spoke about the importance of defence policy in defending the country. Leading figures from academia and the armed forces who helped make the training a success were present at the ceremony. The closing ceremony was also graced by, the Director IPSTC Brig J C Sitienei, NDU-K Director Corporate Communications, Col Paul Njuguna, NDU-K Head of teaching and curriculum, Col (Dr) Charles Imbiakha, Officers and course facilitators.
